Is Joey Porter Right?

I’m not much on conspiracy theories (except in the case of JFK) but I’m running out explainations for the worst job of officiating in any sport that I have ever seen. I’m talking about one crucial call and one no- call that almost cost the Steerlers Sunday’s playoff game. We have all seen the blown reversal of the Steeler’s interception that would have effectively ended the game but there was an equally bad no- call earlier when Pittsburg was going for it on 4th down. For those who have forgotten, at least four Colts defensive linemen jumped offsides on a 4th and1. The officials blew the whistle but then said there was no penalty on the play. Huh?

Also I’m suspicious of the interception revesal. The review should only have taken a few seconds if the reversal was based on the fact that Polamalu’s right knee was still on the ground when he fumbled. The review took a while so it looks like the refs were looking for a reason to void the obvious interception.

My Turn on the Cats

Time for me to get in on what the eff is up with UK basketball this season. It comes down to the lack of one word… leadership. I have only watched one game this season where any leadership has been shown on the floor. That was by Rajon Rondo vs. Louisville. Other than that game there has been no leadership at all this season. If you look back at past teams you knew instantly that Rex Chapman or Travis Ford or Jamal Mashburn ect… up to Chuck Hayes was in charge of that team.

If I were coaching UK I would not let them practice in anything that said “Kentucky” on it this week. In my opinion they do not deserve to have that name across thier chest until they show some hustle and desire. If last night is not a wake up call to them then nothing will be.

American Airlines Sucks!

Here’s a short review of American Airines. THEY SUCK! I’m mainly ticked because they ripped four holes in the front pocket of my suitcase. When I stop at the baggage office to let them know they ripped my suitcase the guy tells me they don’t cover pockets, only if the rip goes inisde of the main part of the suitcase. What a load of crap.

So let me get this straight they are going to lose a customer who travels 75% of the time for work over a $100 suitcase? No wonder these idiots are going out of business.

While I’m on a media rant…

Fox News has been my background noise today while working. About every five minutes they’ve had a Fox News Alert to report that Florida State star linebacker A.J. Nicholson is suspended from the Orange Bowl game due to a rape accusation. I have no idea if this kid is guilty or not and I doubt that Bowden would have suspended him without some type of proof. The point is if this kid is hypothetically found innocent do you think there will be Fox News Alerts every five minutes to say Nicholson is found innocent? Of course not.

I’m tired of the media reporting “scandal” on page one and then printing retractions or corrections on page ten. The Grapevine portion of Brit Hume’s program on Fox News is great at catching liberal news outlets doing this on political stories. Even if you do not like Fox News or Brit Hume that segment of the show seems to be very well researched and put together.

Media Debate

Here’s another media debate for you, this one from the sports world. Is anyone else bothered by the reporting on the death of Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy’s son? It irks me a little that the media points out so quickly that this young kid committed suicide. Where is the line between reporting the news and a family’s private life? Obviously this kid had emotional/ mental problems if he took his own life. Does the media have the right to splash that across the front page? I sure as heck don’t think I have the right to know this information. The bottom line is that the media, and all of us, needs to stop and remember with all of these death and missing persons stories that somewhere is a family that is shattered forever. Some parts of these stories need to be left private to the families.

Media Harms Our National Security

They’re at it again! Recently a NY Times article exposed an NSA program to monitor international communications between American citizens and terrorist groups. Wouldn’t you have loved to have had this program in place to monitor the 19 9/11 hijackers?

The worst part is that the White House even asked that they not reveal this program. I’m sure the timing had nothing to do with a soon to be released book by the same reporter on the relationshiop betwwen the CIA and the Bush administration. Yeah right!

So long as everything about this program was done legally there is no reason for the NY Times to have ran the story and sell out our country.

Election ‘08

With this story about Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney not seeking reelection, presumably to run for President, it’s a chance to speculate on the 2008 Pesidential election. The 2008 election should be real interesting due to the fact that the incumbent cannot run again and the VP is also not running. The field is wide open with no clear cut nominee in either party. I’m interested in Romney’s candidacy and am also interested in VA Senator George Allen. The Democrat’s primary will be very interesting also. I don’t believe Hillary is a lock for the nomination. Her problem is that she would have to move too far to the left to win her nomination. I don’t think she can do that and then come back to win the general election. Just shows how wacko the Democrat mainstream has become. No complaints though. More elections for my side to win!

Interesting Turn

Hopefully I am back on track with posts. This blog may become more intresting due to a recent change in contracts I am working on. I’m now working on a contract that requires frequent travel. This travel will be all over the country; for example I’m in Lawrence, KS this week. So in addition to blogging about politics and sports, I’ll also thow in my experiences in different towns. Should be fun.

Moving is a B

My recent lack of posts is due to the fact that I am in the process of moving from Louisville, KY to St. Louis, MO. My wife received an awesome job offer there and I was able to stay with the same company so we are making the move. We moved all of our stuff last weekend and I should be able to physically move there next week. Once I get moved and settled I should return to regular posting and debating sports and politics with whomever reads this site.

Shift of Political Winds?

When I first heard a political commentator, I think it was Dick Morris, predict some far left elements of the Democrat Party and far right elements of the Republican Party combining in their opposition to Bush and his policies I thought that he was nuts. After blogging for about a month I’m starting to see his point. I’ve had comments from folks who claim to be traditional conservatives, and I take them at their word, sound a lot like far left folks I’ve seen comment here and on other sites.

What does it say when those who are on the far spectrum of Conservatism and Liberalism sound alike? You still have those seen as more “center” sounding alike also arguing against the far spectrum team.

To me it is the start of some type of major political realignment that I think I will see play out in my lifetime (I’m only 26). The fact third party candidates have had major impact in recent Presidential elections, Perot in ‘92 and Nader in 2000, adds to this theory. Any thoughts?
